Food processors

• A food processor is a great aid in a raw food kitchen. It will do most of the thing you can do by hand only very much faster! Try slicing up nuts by hand. The processor will do this in seconds.

• Note that you cannot make flax seed into flour or make nut milks with a food processor. You have to use a blender for these tasks.

Features to check for when considering a food processor.

• As with a blender, make sure that the processor you go for has power and capacity to do what you want, before checking the features. The entry level models are simply not up to it, especially if you intend to make batches of crackers and cookies for the dehydrator.

• Check that it has a large enough mixing bowl to meet your processing requirements. A bowl size of 3 litres upwards is useful.

• As for power, go for anything from 1000 watts upwards. This will deal with all your processing requirements.

• Processors generally arrive with a slicing blade, a shredding blade and an "S" blade for mixing. You will probably use these the most.

• On my food processor, I haven't even used my whisking attachment yet. Maybe this will have some use if I get into making gourmet raw food puddings.

• You can also get mini food processors, which are useful for chopping up garnishes and very small quantities of food.
