Sprouting

  • Sprouts have on average about 30 times the nutrient levels compared to the mature plants.

  • You can and should eat fresh sprouts in any salads.

  • You can juice sprouts too.

  • You can add sprouts to blended soups

  • You can add sprouts to green wraps and nori rolls

  • Sprouts go well with crackers

What can you sprout? Well the list is endless, but here are a few of the more popular ones to get you started.

  • sunflower

  • peas

  • alfalfa

  • buckwheat

  • broccoli

  • radish

  • clover

  • lentils

  • mung beans

Simple and effective sprouting equipment

  • Sprouting is about keeping everything clean, fresh and drained properly. I strongly recommend that you get the hang of a simple jar based system, before considering anything more sophisticated.

  • You can set up a simple sprouting system by just using suitably sized jars with fine meshed lids. To make a meshed lid you can simply use a piece of non-toxic meshed fabric held on with an elastic band. (An old nut milk bag is ideal.)

  • Conveniently you can buy jars with plastic lids that incorporate a mesh. This allows water to be drained through, but it's fine enough to retain the sprouting seeds.
