Ingredients # chia

chia (Salvia hispanic)

  • Chia is an ancient crop and was cultivated by the Aztecs. It is a member of the mint family.

  • The seeds may be black, brown or white. Organically grown or wild chia seeds are more likely to be a mixture of colours including black, brown and white.

  • Chia seeds are very rich in omega-3

  • The seeds can be ground up and soaked in fruit juice to make the Mexican drink "chia fresca"

  • Soaked chia seeds can be used in a variety of raw food recipes in much the same way as flax seed.
