Jicama (Pachyrhizus erosus)

  • Another common name for this plant is "Mexican turnip"

  • The plant belongs to a genus of plants known as "yam beans". It originated in Mexico.

  • Jicama is grown for its edible tuberous root.  The root is about the size of a large swede. It's firm and sweet,  with a good juice content. It's great eaten raw in salads.
