Mint

Generally
if you buy fresh mint from a store it will be spearmint or possibly
apple mint.

I prefer
spearmint for in salad dressings for its sharper taste, and apple mint
in smoothies for its more subtle taste. Either are fine chopped up in
salads.
Mint

There are
over 30 species belong to the huge mint-family. The most common versions
are peppermint (mentha piperita) with its dark
green leaves with a reddish stem and lavender flowers, and spearmint (mentha
spicata) which has lighter green, pointy leaves and pink flowers.
