Pitaya (Pitahaya)

  • There are three main varieties of pitaya.

  • Red pitaya (Hylocereus undatus) which has red skin and white flesh. This is the most common and is popularly known as dragon fruit.

  • Costa Rica Pitaya (Hylocereus costaricensis) which also has a red skin and the flesh is red too.

  • Yellow Pitaya (Hylocereus megalanthus) which has a yellow skin and white flesh.
