Spring onions are also known as green onions. In the UK this is especially true later on in the season when they have become slightly more bulbous.
Spring onions are basically onions picked early on before the bulbs set in.
Spring onions are often young Welsh onions (Allium fistulosum), but other varieties can be used too.
