Apple and blueberry fruit leather

Apple and blueberry fruit leather

A simple recipe to make your own fruit leather snack bars and know exactly what's in them. They do take a while to dehydrate so slot them in when your dehydrator is busy.

Method

Wash the apples, quarter them and remove the cores. There is no need to skin them.

Process the apples and blueberries together to make a fine paste. You may have to do this in two lots.

Dehydrating

Spread the mixture in a thick layer over a dehydrator sheet on a dehydrator tray. Leave an inch all round to accommodate any dribbles. It will dry out fairly thin.

Dehydrate for two days at 41C (105F) They are too sticky to turn over.

Allow to cool and then it will be easier to peel of the fruit leather. Use kitchen scissors to cut it into bars.

Serve

These make a great mid morning snack. Take some with you on a walk, or for an after swimming snack.

Afterwards

Clean the dehydrator sheet

Recycle the waste
